Early years of a young patriot (1866---1894)

1. A scene of Cui Heng Village
Sun Zhongshan (registered as Deming in the clan records,  called Dixiang as a child, and named Wen, also Yat- sen when attending schools) was born to an ordinary peasant family in Cui Heng village, Xiangshan (now Zhongshan)  County, Guangdong Province on November 12, 1866. This is a scene of Cui Heng Village in the 1920s.

4. Feng’s Ancestral Hall
Sun Yat-sen started his schooling at a village school located in Feng’s Ancestral Hall at 10.





5. The O’lany School
Sun Yat-sen entered the O’lany School at Honolulu, Hawaii, in September 1879, and graduated with honor in 1882. This is a picture of the school.



6. Portrait of Sun Yat-sen

7. Original site of Boji Hospital
Sun Yat-sen began to study medicine at Boji Hospital in Guangzhou in 1886. This is a picture of the original site of the hospital.





8. College of Western Medicine
Sun Yat-sen studied medicine at the Academy of Western Medicine in Hong Kong from September 1887 to July 1892. This is a picture of the academy.

10. Photo of “Four Guys” and Guan Xinyan
While studying at the College of Western Medicine in Hong Kong around 1892, Sun Yat-sen often gathered with Chen Shaobai, You Lie, Yang Heling to discuss their ideals of overthrowing the Qing regime. They were thus called the “Four Guys”. Front row from right: You Lie, Chen Shaobai, Sun Yat-sen, and Yang Heling. Standing behind is Guan Xinyan (a student of the college).

11. Jing Hu Hospital 
Sun Yat-sen went to work as a volunteer doctor at Jing Hu Hospital in Macao in September 1892. This is a picture of the hospital, founded in 1872.



12. Receipt of loan and prescription
Sponsored by Wu Jiewei, a gentleman in Macao, Sun Yat-sen borrowed 1,440 liang of silver from Jing Hu Hospital to open a Pharmacy of Western and Chinese Medicine. This is a receipt of loan and prescription signed by Sun Yat-sen.
