YU Minbin
Deputy Secretary
YU Minbin was born in September 1963 of Han nationality and is from Raoping, Guangdong Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Dr Yu holds a doctoral degree, and is currently professor of ophthalmology as well as a Doctoral Advisor. He is regarded as an expert honored with the Special State Subsidy Award by the State Council. He has served as an Associate Director of the Glaucoma Group for the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS), an Associate Director of Ophthalmology Subspecialty for the Guangdong Medical Doctor Association, a Standing Director of Guangdong Optometric Association, a Director of Eye Care Branch for the Guangdong Hospital Association and a Standing Associate Director of Clinical Medicine Branch for the Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association.

After graduating from Sun Yat-sen College of Medical Science, Zhongshan Medical University in 1984, Dr Yu went on to receive his PhD degrees from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC), Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Science (SUMS) from 1989 to 1994 where he remained staff at ZOC since then. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1996 and promoted to Chief Ophthalmologist in 2002. In 2003, Dr Yu was then appointed Professor and later that same year was granted eligibility to serve as a dissertation supervisor. Since 2009, he has served in leadership capacities for the Glaucoma Department at ZOC.

In his role of university and hospital administration, Dr. Yu served as Deputy Director of Human Resources Department at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) from April 2003 to April 2012. Dr Yu was the Associate Head of ZOC and Dean for the Department of Optometry and Vision Science from December 2006 to December 2011. In January 2012, he was appointed Secretary of the ZOC Committee of the CPC. In June 2014, he became a Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC of SYSU, and Vice-President of Sun Yat-sen University. In April 2017, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary of the SYSU Party Committee.
