ZHU Xiping
Vice President
ZHU Xiping was born in June 1962. On receiving a doctoral degree in science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1989, he took up a position in the Department of Mathematics at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Currently, he serves as a member of the standing committee of SYSU Party Committee, Vice President of SYSU, and a professor and doctoral supervisor in the University. In 1998, he was awarded funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; in 1999, he was selected as a first and second-level candidate of the “100, 1,000 and 10,000 Talents Project” of the Ministry of Personnel; and from September 2001 to September 2006, he was appointed as Distinguished Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education. He won a second prize of the Natural Science Award of the CAS in 1991. He served as supervisor for two doctoral candidates who won National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Awards in 2002 and 2013 respectively. He received the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) Morningside Silver Medal of Mathematics in December 2004; and a first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education in 2013. He was supported by the Innovation Research Group Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2015. In 2016, he won the Chern Medal award of ICCM, and a second prize of the National Natural Science Award.
