YAN Guangmei
YAN Guangmei, PhD, is Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University and Professor of Pharmacology at Zhongshan Medical School of Sun Yat-sen University.

Dr. Yan received his PhD from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Science in 1989. In 1991, he got his postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH/NIH) in the USA supported by Fogarty International Fellowship. In 1994, he worked at the Central Nervous System Research Centre of Eli Lilly and Company in the USA and Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Indiana University as a visiting scientist. In 1996, Dr. Yan came back to China and joined Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Science as a professor of Pharmacology and was appointed as a vice president of this university. Since 2001, Dr. Yan has served as Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University.

Dr. Yan’s research has focused on the field of neuroscience, specializing in molecular genetic mechanisms and drug development in ischemic and hypoxic brain injury by using non-human primate model. Dr. Yan’s lab has also been engaging in the study of novel therapeutics for brain tumors, including differentiation therapy and oncolytic therapy. So far, Dr. Yan has published over 160 academic papers, 80 of which in peer-reviewed international journals such as Nature Biotechnology, PNAS, Oncogene, Molecular Pharmacology, etc. As Principle Investigator, Dr. Yan has successfully obtained a number of research grants, such as National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Key Project of National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. Dr. Yan was also honored second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Education, third prize of Science and Technology Progress Award by Ministry of Health and Department of Health of Guangdong Province respectively. He has so far obtained 8 patents as the first author.

Dr. Yan currently serves as the chairman of Guangdong Association of Neuroscience, a member of the Committee of Science and Technology of Ministry of Education of China and a consultant of Pharmacopoeia of USA. He also serves as a member of editorial board of Chinese Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the chief editor of the national textbook Pharmacology.
