Introduction of the Speaker:

PENG Xuanxian is a Professor and PI, State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, China. He studied at McGill University, Canada as a postdoctoral fellow and visiting scholar, and had two experiences at Kyoto University, Japan and The Scripps Institute Research, USA as a visiting professor. Professor Peng was the Head of Bioengineering Research Institute in Nanchang University, the Chairman of Department of Biology, Xiamen University from 1998 to 2003 and the first Dean of School of Life Sciences, Xiamen University, China from 1999 to 2003. His main research is focusing on the functional proteomics and metabolomics for understanding the mechanisms of bacteria against host and environmental stresses, especially antibiotic-resistant mechanisms. He develops high throughput platform to identify efficient protective immunogens and cross-protective immunogens and proposes new concepts on identification level-based antigenomics and on polyvalent vaccines cross bacterial species and genus. Professor Peng has taken the responsibility for the projects “973”, "863” and National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program and General Program). In recent years, he has 11 patents, seven awards for Science and Technology Achievement approved by Provincial Government or Minister of Education as the first owner, more than 20 papers published in Journal of Proteome Research, Proteomics and Journal of Proteomics as corresponding authors. He was a member of the fifth Chinese Education Ministry for Sciences and Technology, is chairman of Chinese Society for Marine Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, senior member of Chinese Society for Cell Biology and vice chairman for Genomics and Proteomics, and member of the Chinese Protein Society. He is currently serving as an associate editor for Journal of Integrated OMICS and as a reviewer for more than 20 SCI journals. He was conference chairman of 2011 International Conference on Environmental OMICS (ICEO). Professor Peng received various honorary titles, including "National Work Model", "National Middle-aged Personage in the News”, "Provincial Outstanding Returned Overseas Chinese Scholar”, "Provincial Work Model”, "Provincial Middle-aged Academic Discipline Lead”, "Provincial Outstanding Individual in Education, Research and Management”, "Provincial Outstanding Educator”, and “Xiamen Top Talent”.

All are welcome to the lecture!
