Abstract:

Translator’s agency, the inevitable core issue in theoretical construction of translation studies, is the essential question of translator studies. As a push-hand behind the emergence of translator studies, the developments of sociology of translation in recent years have provided rich theoretical frames and conceptual tools for analyzing translator’s agency. From the angle of the relations between the individual and society, the different interpretations of agency in Bourdieu’s sociology, ANT and Social Network Analysis have been explored to highlight their different explanatory power over translator’s agency. An integrated approach to the study of translator’s agency has been proposed in the end, hoping to provide a multi-layered framework for analyzing translator’s agency and contribute to the further development of translator studies.
