The 24th “Qian’an Cup” National College Students Fencing Championship was held in Qian’an, Hebei Province from October 28th to November 3rd, 2018. More than 500 athletes from 37 universities and colleges nationwide took part in the championship.

SYSU Fencing Team sent 26 athletes to take part in the events of Foil, Epee and Sabre. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Cai Yongmao and Coach Wanglei from the Department of Physical Education, SYSU Fencing Team finally won 4 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze medals.

It is worth mentioning that among the 12 medals, 3 gold and 3 bronze ones were awarded to the freshmen this year, which proves their ability to take up the baton from their senior schoolmates and thus has a special meaning.

In this competition, SYSU athletes inspired each other and worked tenaciously, presenting superb athletic performances and sportsmanship, and demonstrating SYSY students’ pursuit of excellence, resilience and uplifting spirit as well.
