Opening Ceremony for the 7th Guangzhou University Student Film Festival Takes Place at SYSU

On the evening of October 14, the opening ceremony of the 7th Guangzhou University Student Film Festival took place in SYSU’s Liang Qiuju Hall. Student representatives from seven universities of Guangzhou city (including SYSU) attended the ceremony and performed. Lin Xiong, Director of Department of Publicity, Guangdong Provincial Committee, Zhen Detao, the Secretary of the Party Committee of SYSU, and officials from the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Department of Culture of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Youth Association, the General Electricity Department of Guangdong Province, the Literary Federation of Guangdong Province and the South Media Corporation attended the ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, Dong Jie, the ambassador of the film festival launched the Light-Up ceremony with the leaders, announcing the commencement of the 7th Guangzhou University Student Film Festival and sang with the student representatives from the seven universities. They recalled the Classic Red Songs from the mainstream movies over the past sixty years and celebrated on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the emancipation of Guangzhou. The debut for the movie “Qiuxi” in Guangzhou was then held. Many students claimed afterward that the movie has given them a profound, significant lesson on patriotism; it allows them to gain a better understanding on the emancipation of Guangzhou.

According to the source, the festival will last for two months. More than fifty domestic movies will be shown at over one hundred of universities in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Zhanjiang and the number of showings is expected to exceed 500 During the festival, a series of events such as Star conferences, DV contests , short Cartoon Films and Dubbings contests will also be carried out for purposes of entertainment and inspiration .
