Anthropology Student Yang Xiaoliu Awarded Wenner-Gren Grant

Yang Xiaoliu, a PhD Student at the Department of Anthropology, received a grant from the Wenner-Gren Foundation (U.S.A.) for his doctoral dissertation Making participatory poverty reduction Chinese on November 15. According to its recorded history, this is the first time for the foundation to extend financial support to a doctorate candidate in Mainland China.

Created and endowed in 1941 as The Viking Fund, Inc. by Axel Wenner-Gren, the prestigious Wenner-Gren Foundation is a private operating foundation that supports basic research in all branches of anthropology. It is committed to advancing significant and innovative research about humanity’s cultural and biological origins, development, and variation, and creating chances of academic exchange for scholars in anthropology. Current Anthropology, one of the world leading academic journals, has also been sponsored by the foundation.
