Former Vice Premier Qian Qichen Inspects East Campus

Former Vice Premier Qian Qichen visited the East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University accompanied by SYSU Vice President Chen Ruzhu on the morning of January 16.

Having long been referred as a “smiling master diplomat”, Qian Qichen is well respected among the Chinese and enjoys worldwide attention. During his tenure as a foreign minister, he had helped establish China as a diplomatic force within the international community. He has also won titles such as “diplomatic ballet star" and “super diplomatic artist” from the west.

His biggest hobbies are reading and walking. He speaks very fluent English and Russian and is interested in politics, history, biography, comments on events, and scribble. Despite of his ripe age of 78, he is quite healthy and energetic. When visiting the library, he listened to Mr. Chen’s introduction of the university and looked over the library’s equipments and the architecture style very carefully. He encouraged the university to maintain positive, steady development momentum so as to become an internationally privileged university in the near future.
