Lancaster University President Paul Wellings Visits SYSU

Lancaster University President Paul Wellings, together with John McGovern, the Director of the International Office, paid a visit to Sun Yat-sen University the morning of April of 6. They met and talked with SYSU Vice President Xu Ningsheng, Professor Ren Jiagang and Xu Yao, the Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.

During the meeting, Xu briefed them on the university’s achievements in research, teaching and campus construction. Both sides also reached common understanding on further cooperation in cross-disciplinary areas, such as environment, bio-informatics and statistics. Paul Wellings invited SYSU professors in those fields to visit Lancaster University when the timing is appropriate.

Founded in 1964, Lancaster University is one of the top 10 universities in England. The recent evaluation reveals its excellence in teaching standard with many departments being ranked “outstanding” such as statistics and management department. These two universities established official exchange relationship as early as 1998 and signed students exchange agreement in December 2000.
