Professor Song Weier Honored with CMB Distinguished Professorship Award

 

China Medical Board (CMB) held its 1st Distinguished Professorship Award ceremony in Hangzhou on February 9. SYSU Professor Song Weier, a renowned expert in breast surgery, received the award for his basic research in breast cancer, outstanding achievements in surgery field, good academic ethics and integrity. He is the only awardee in south China.

CMB unveiled the selection of Distinguished Professorship Award recipients in May, 2008, and entrusted Institute of International Education (IIE) to make independent screening which was carried out by a panel of distinguished international experts who reviewed applications and interviewed semi-finalists, with personal interviews conducted entirely in English. The yearly award picks up ten recipients each time. The awards are in the amount of $12,000 per year for a five year period, with opportunity to seek extension for a second five year period. Distinguished professors will occasionally be asked by the CMB to undertake consultation, reviews and attend meetings.
