SYSU Students Wang Peipei and Xu Suowen Win Leadership Scholarship of the Committee of 100
Our university has participated in the competition of the leadership scholarship program of the Committee of 100 for four consecutive terms, and many students have won the scholarship. The winner Wang Peipei had been a volunteer of supporting education in Tibet for one year. She had helped the Burmese in Tibet with the support of 2007 Helton program of American international law association and organized the students from the School of Law to engage in public services in the Center for Protecting Street Children of Guangzhou. Wang Peipei had offered legal services to rural workers and women prisoners, and she has a great deal of experience in student activities and volunteering. Wang Peipei was prominent among the 28 winners of 2008-2009 leadership scholarship of the Committee of 100, and she was chosen as one of the top 3 by the judges. Xun Suowen is both a member of Guangzhou Youth Volunteer Association and a member of Western Gesanghua Student-aiding Association. Xun has organized and participated in many activities such as rehabilitation training for children with emotional disorder, blood donation, western student-aiding and exchanging, and cross-campus investigation as well as recreation and sports exchange. The Committee of 100 was founded in 1990 by a group of concerned
Chinese-Americans, including I.M. Pei and Yo-Yo Ma, who are
leaders in their fields, and it is a famous non-government Chinese-American
organization in the United States. The members of the Committee
of 100 include Jia-Hui Luo, David Ho, Zhi-Yuan Yang, Kai-Fu
Lee, Ya-Qin Zhang and many other famous Chinese-Americans. Initially
set up in 2005 at 14 universities such as Peking University,
Tsinghua University, and Sun Yat-Sen University, the Committee
of 100’s Leadership scholarship is a long term program which
recognizes outstanding graduate students in China who demonstrate
academic excellence, leadership abilities and community involvement.
