Stockwell Day, Minster of International Trade of Canada, visits SYSU and delivers a speech

 

On the afternoon of April 15, a 10-member delegation led by Stockwell Day, the Minster of International Trade of Canada, and Francois Rivest, the Consul General of Canada in Guangzhou visited Sun Yat-sen University, accompanied by Mr. Liu Linlin, the counselor with the Ministry of Commerce, and Mr. Yu Jinfu, the division chief from the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province. Stockwell Day delivered a speech entitled Enhancing Canada’s Trade and Investment Engagement with China. SYSU vice president Xu Ningsheng, the dean of Lingnan School Wu Lifan and the deputy director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Hao Yajuan gave a warm reception to the delegation.

Xu Ningsheng extended his warm welcome to the delegation and briefed them on the university’s basic facts. Both sides exchanged views on the current status and development of the cooperation between Canadian higher education institutes and SYSU in the domains of economy and management, hoping to continue to boost the related academic exchanges in the future.

During the conference, Stockwell Day talked about the Sino-Canada relationship, especially the economic relations between the two countries under the current world economic situation, as well as his hope to propel the communication between Guangdong province and Canada in areas such as academic, culture and trades. He also exchanged opinions with the present faculty and students on issues such as global economy, the Sino-Canada trade, etc.
