Dongguan and SYSU officially signs to jointly set up “Dongguan SYSU Graduate School”

 

Xiao-Ming XU, vice mayor of Dongguan City and An-Long Xu, vice president of SYSU signed an Agreement on Joint Construction of Dongguan SYSU Graduate School ,in Songsan Lake Administrative Committee of Dongguan city with the aim of implementing the scientific development view and better serving the local social and economic development. The contract ceremony marked a substantial phase in the launching of the Dongguan SYSU Graduate School. Huang Daren, president of SYSU, and the leading members from Dongguan City Science and Technology Bureau, Finance Bureau, Songsan Lake Administrative Committee all attended and observed the contract ceremony.

After the contract ceremony, the graduate school set up the first council and convened the first conference. Huang Daren, president of SYSU, became the Chairman of the council. Leng Xiaoming, vice mayor of Dongguan City, and Xu Anlong, vice president of SYSU, became the deputy Chairman of the council. The leading members from Dongguan City Science and Technology Bureau, Finance Bureau, Songsan Lake Administrative Committee and the professors of SYSU became members of the council. The conference elected Xu Anlong as the dean of the graduate school. It also passed some related bills and put forward specific requirements for the work to follow.

The Dongguan SYSU Graduate School is a joint project of Dongguan city and Sun Yat-Sen University, with each holding 50% of share in graduate school. Dongguan city registered capital 120 million yuan, and Sun Yat-Sen University equally invested 120 million yuan by offering the brand, the technical achievements and human resources. They totally invested 240 million yuan to launch this new public platform of scientific and technological innovation. The graduate school will base in Dongguan city, serve the Pear River Delta, and make impacts on Guangdong province and Hong Kong. With independent innovation as principles, the graduate school will rely on the resources from SYSU’s School of Life Science, School of Physics and Engineering, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, School of Engineering and so on in order to make key technical breakthroughs in fields of biological techniques, electronic information, environmental protection, etc.It also launched seven research centers including Evaluation New Medicine Center, Digital Home Engineering Center and so on. These centers will form the first batch of industry demonstration projects, promote the industrial upgrading of Dongguan city, lead to the formation of emerging industries of great market potential, and promote the sound and rapid economic and social development of Dongguan city.
