Third National Report Meeting on the Meritorious Deeds of "Top-ten Most Adored Policemen” Held in SYSU

 

On the morning of April 24th, the third national report meeting on the meritorious deeds of "Top-ten my Most Adored Policemen” was held in the KK Leung Building on the South Campus of SYSU. The secretary of the Party committee Zheng Detao of SYSU met with the members of the crew prior to the commencement of the report meeting. SYSU vice president Yu Shiyou, Pan Zhanxin, a member of the CPC committee of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, and other officers of public security attended the report meeting. A total number of 1,600 people participated in the meeting, including armed policemen, officers and policemen from Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, and faculty and student representatives from Guangzhou colleges and universities.

Before the meeting began, the secretary Zheng Detao, on behalf of SYSU teachers and students, expressed his warm welcome and revere tribute to the members of the report group. He pointed out that, heroes and role models embodied splendid mental outlook and sacrificing spirit of people's police sufficiently. “We ought to learn from deeds, and to make new contributions to the construction of a harmonious society.”

At the report meeting, Pan Zhanxin provided some background information about the event. Choosing “Top 10 Most Adored Policemen” was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Public Security and CCTV and the results were unveiled in January. The heroes who were chosen through public ballot had drawn extensive attention. To publicize their heroic deeds extensively, to express our gratitude for the caring and supports given by the public, and to encourage police force nationwide to fulfill their social responsibilities, the Ministry of Public Security decided to set up a report group to give lecture tour.

“When we were most needed, we showed our competence with la kindred spirit, blood and toil and wisdom. We will always be a protective screen to the safety of our citizens." The audience gave a warm applause at the sight of Zhu Yongzhang, the leader of the Plainclothes Group, the Yue Xiu District sub-bureau of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau. Earthquake relief hero Li Yuejin, anti-drug hero Duan Song, “emergency rescue spearhead” Li Long, "highly skilled doctor" Chen Benshan, etc gave an account of their services in bits and pieces in an unadorned manner. Heroic stories inspired the audience, with warm applause rising one after another.

At last, SYSU vice president Yu Shiyou delivered a speech, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the heroes and models for sharing with the audience their touching stories, and his revere respect to the policemen who make sacrifice unconditionally. He said, the exemplary deeds of every hero in the public security battle front are the best live teaching materials for us to set up proper world view, philosophy and values, and hoped that teachers and students would take advantage of this event to adhere to one’s belief, incorporate one’s pursuit of personal value into the common welfare of the Party and the people, study with endeavors, work hard, and take an active part in the construction of a harmonious society,
