Final of 2nd “Win in SYSU” Capability and Plan of Starting an Undertaking Competition Held on South Campus

 

On the afternoon of May 24, the Grand Final of 2nd “SYSU Science and Technology Park Cup”——“Win in SYSU” Capability and Plan of Starting an Undertaking Competition was held in the Xiongdelong Center of south campus. Chen Xing, the Deputy Director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Huang Daren, the President of SYSU, and Zhu Kongjun, the Deputy Party Secretary attended the competition. Guo Guang, the Director of Guangdong Office of “Entrepreneurs of China” Magazine; Zhang Zhujun, the
Deputy General Manage of Guangzhou Lingnan International Group Co., Ltd; Wu Yuning, the Director of Guangzhou Hi-tech Innovation Service Center; Zhu Wei, the Director of Guangdong Technology Venture Capital Group Co .,Ltd and the General Manager of Guangdong Create Investment Group Co., Ltd; Xu Jianping, the Chairman of China Land International (Hong Kong) Group Co., Ltd;
Tan Jianming, the Chairman of Senzhen Yujing Investment Group Co., Ltd; and Jiang Jing, the General Manager of Guangzhou Besco Group Co., Ltd served as the judges for the grand final.

President Huang Daren and the Deputy Director Chen Xing gave a speech respectively and spoke highly of the competition and expressed their best regards to the teams. After several rounds of fierce competition in Road show, Presentation of Advantage, Presentation of Venture, Teams’ PK and Title Bout, the project “Qidian Electronic Technology Company” of the Qidian Team led by graduate student Xu Ruifang of Lingnan College won the champion of the competition. They received 10,000 yuan cash prize and an innovative fund which was no less than three times of the prize. The Air indoor environmental protection science and technology company formed by Student Zheng Jingjie received the runner-up. Both of these projects utilized the patented technology of SYSU.

After the competition, most teams that had made to the final received recognition from the venture capitalists of the judges; some even at the point of negotiating contracts with investment cooperation. Among them, Xu Jianping, the Chairman of China Land International (Hong Kong) Group Co., Ltd and the alumni of SYSU promised to invest 60,000 yuan to Nicole team that received the fourth place; the main target of the team’s project was to give tutorship to the middle-school students of Guizhou Province (the depressed areas in particular). During the semifinal, the team already received 10,000 Yuan of donation to implement the public services part of the project.

Many competitors expressed that they had learnt a lot from the competition; they were greatly inspired by the team members and the judges; the competition also strengthened their determination of starting an undertaking. The stage of “Win in SYSU” for them isn’t the end but the beginning of starting a venture. They believed that they would become stronger and more determined in their future journey of pursuing their dreams of starting a venture.

Jointly guided by nine functional departments of SYSU including SYSU Youth Association and Career Development Counseling Center, sponsored by SYSU Science and Technology Park Management Group Co., Ltd and organized by SYSU Inaugurator Union, the theme of the competition was “Capability” and “Plan”, offering a platform to SYSU students who want to start an undertaking, to compete and communicate with one another; it vividly interpreted and improved the students’ comprehensive qualities and capabilities of starting a venture. This year twelve teams were selected out of 106 teams from all four campuses after the preliminary and semifinal. Some of the twelve teams had already established their companies; while others are in the process of setting up their companies.

Leaders of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou Science and Technology Bureau, officials in charge of science and technology work of Haizhu District and Yuexiu District, and officials of the guiding and sponsoring organizations of the competition also attended the grand final.
