Li
Ping was born in February 1957 of Han nationality
and is from Jiaoling County, Guangdong Province.
She received her Ph. D from the Chinese People's
University in 1997 and is now a professor of ethnics
and supervisor of doctoral candidates. She was
elected member of the eighth and ninth Party Committees
of Sun Yat-sen University in 1993 and 1998 respectively,
and now also serves as a member of the Directory
Committee of College Education of Sun Yat-sen
University, a member of the Directory Committee
of Political Science in College Education under
the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Li graduated from high school
in 1975 and went to work on the Longmen Farm in
Ding An County, Hainan. She was appointed deputy
director of the farm, later transferred to the
office of Educated Youth in Ding An County as
a regular officer. She was enrolled at the Department
of Philosophy, Sun Yat-sen University in March
1978, and stayed on to teach in the University
upon graduation in 1982.
Dr. Li was once secretary, deputy
director and director of the Research Section
for Ideology Education, the Research Institute
of Ethics and the Department of Theoretical Studies.
She was promoted to lecturer in 1987, associate
professor in 1992 and professor in 1995. She pursued
further study at the Department of Philosophy,
Beijing University from 1985 to 1986; attended
English training at Shanghai No.2 Foreign Languages
Institute in 1989, and conducted research at Pacific
Lutheran University in the US as visiting scholar
from 1990 to 1991. She pursued her doctorate study
in ethics on-the-post at the Chinese People's
University from 1994 to 1997. Dr. Li was appointed
vice president of Sun Yat-sen University in August
1999.
