50 minutes after midnight on August 22 (Beijing time), our alumni
Dong Zhaozhi and Wu Hanxiong won the silver medal at men’s team foil
final at 2004 Athens Olympic Games, together with their teammates Ye
Cong and Wang Haibin. China lost the gold medal to Italy at 45-42. It’s
another Olympic silver medal for the Chinese men’s fencing team and a
repetition of the Sydney regret four years ago. This would be the last
performance at Olympic arena by “China’s Three Musketeers”---Ye Cong,
Dong Zhaozhi, and Wang Haibin.
Maybe even years later the memory of these two silver medals would
still trigger a train of regretful feelings in their heart, but no one
can deny the fact that these medals also shine with golden splendor due
to these fencers’ sweated struggle on the way towards the final glory.
Dong Zhaozhi and Wu Hanxiong, who have summoned up all their courage and
energy to fight for China’s honor, will inspire us in Sun Yat-sen
University to make further progress with their noble spirit and
outstanding achievement
