Guangzhou Municipal Government Leaders and SYSU Leaders Pay Visits to SYSU Teacher Representatives
September 10, 2012 is the 28th Teacher's Day in China. On this special day, Wan Qingliang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, and Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU, paid visits to SYSU teacher representatives and conveyed Teacher’s Day greetings and sincere wishes to the hard-working frontline teachers.

On the morning of September 10, Wan Qingliang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, came to Sun Yat-sen University to visit Prof. Huang Tianji of the Department of Chinese. At Prof. Huang's office in the Department of Chinese, Secretary Wan Qingliang conveyed cordial greetings to Prof. Huang and expressed respect for Prof. Huang's excellent achievements in education. Secretary Wan Qingliang also presented a gift to Prof. Huang and wished him lasting youthfulness. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Chen Guo, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Wang Dong, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, and Qu Shaobing, Director-General of the Bureau of Education of Guangzhou Municipality, accompanied Secretary Wan Qingliang in the visit.

On the morning of September 5, Secretary Zheng Detao went to The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU to visit Academician Su Qiang of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, who was receiving treatment there. At the hospital, Secretary Zheng Detao brought flower and fruit baskets to Academician Su Qiang to convey sincere greetings, and thanked him for his outstanding contributions to education over the decades. Secretary Zheng Detao inquired after his health, asked the doctors to give him best treatment and wished him early recovery. On the afternoon of September 8, Secretary Zheng Detao paid separate visits to Associate Professor Zhou Jianhua of School of Engineering, Prof. Ma Tianjun of Department of Philosophy, and Prof. Nathan Congdon of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center to convey Teacher’s Day greetings. He asked them about their work and life since they came to SYSU and promised that the university will try its best to solve their difficulties. The professors thanked the university leaders for their care and encouragement and said that they will work even harder and make contributions to building SYSU into a world-class university.

On the afternoon of September 10, Xu Ningsheng, President of SYSU, and Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, paid visits to The Affiliated Primary School and The Affiliated Middle School, and held a discussion meeting with administrative leaders and teacher representatives of the two schools respectively. At the meetings, President Xu Ningsheng conveyed Teacher’s Day greetings to all the teachers in the affiliated schools, and listened to the work reports of the two schools. He fully affirmed the ever-increasing level of education and good reputation enjoyed by the two schools in recent years, acknowledged their positive contributions to cultivating talent, providing high-quality programs for the children of university faculty and staff, and cooperating with the university in talent introduction, and thanked the teachers for their great efforts in the development of the two schools. Meanwhile, President Xu Ningsheng said that the university will fully support the development of the affiliated schools in all aspects and try to solve the problems and difficulties in the course of development. He hoped that the affiliated schools will become better and better and develop together with the university.
