2013 Citi Cup Financial Innovation Application Competition Launched in Sun Yat-sen University

On March 15, the 2013 Citi Cup Financial Innovation Application Competition (“Citi Cup”) was launched in Swasey Hall, Sun Yat-sen University. Yu Shiyou, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission; Yu Jin, Executive Vice President and Country Human Resources Officer of Citi China; and Gary Li, General Manager of Citigroup Software Technology and Services (China) Limited (CSTS), attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Qi Xiaoping, Director of Student Affairs Office; Huang Shan, Secretary of SYSU Youth Association; Yin Xiaochuan, Deputy Director of University Dean’s Office; Tan Yingyao, Deputy Secretary of School of Software; and nearly two hundred teachers and students attended the launch ceremony.
Deputy Secretary Yu Shiyou, Vice President Yu Jin and General Manager Gary Li jointly launched the competition.
Yu Shiyou, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission, expressed that SYSU insists on promoting collaborations between universities and society so that the students can receive good specialty education and get to know the cutting-edge knowledge of the industry. The positive effect of interaction between universities and society, on the one hand, will improve the self-development of universities, and on the other hand, will put students into the test of the industry through hand-on practice to become qualified talents in the society.
Yu Jin, Executive Vice President of Citi China, introduced the competition and its goal of promoting financial innovation through science and technology. He called on more university students of different majors such as IT, Finance, Economics, and Management to form competing teams. Gary Li, General Manager of CSTS, encouraged students to take an active part in the competition.
This year’s “Citi Cup” is hosted by Citigroup Software Technology and Services (China) Limited (CSTS), organized by Sun Yat-sen University and implemented by School of Software, Lingnan College and School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University. Registration starts now and the deadline is June 30, 2013. The final competition will be held at the end of the year, when eight teams will contend for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes and Best Future Payment Innovation Award and Best Technology Realization Product Award. Besides, the Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates will also evaluate the entries and provide some teams with grants of RMB200,000 or RMB 500,000 in venture capital funds.
