National Youth Science Camp in Universities launched at SYSU

On the morning of July 22, the launching ceremony of the National Youth Science Camp in Universities (NYSCU) was held on south campus of SYSU. Wu Huanquan, Vice President of Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology; Ye Xinpeng, Director of the Children & Youth Science Center of Guangdong Province; Zhu Kongjun, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; and Huang Yi, Secretary of SYSU Youth Association, attended the ceremony.

The science camp is sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Ministry of Education (MOE), and organized by Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. This is the second time for SYSU to host a NYSCU. A total of 200 high school students take part in the science camp, including 150 from Guangdong Province, and 50 from Guangxi Province. The 200 participants are divided into three sub camps: the Life Sciences Camp, the Physics Camp and the Geography Camp. They will study at SYSU for a week, attend lectures given by distinguished professors, visit research facilities on campus, carry out scientific and technological activities, communicate with SYSU students, and experience science, scientific research and college life before going to college.

After the launching ceremony, Deputy Secretary Zhu Kongjun gave a lecture entitled “The History and Tradition of Sun Yat-sen University” to the camp members.
