To celebrate the 29th Teachers' Day, the Guangdong Music and Folk Art Troupe was invited to perform a concert of classical Cantonese music for nearly a thousand SYSU teachers and students at K.K. Leung Hall on South Campus on September 6. This event was co-hosted by the Publicity Department, Pensioners Office, SYSU Labor Union and SYSU Youth Association.
A scene of the concert

Gaohu solo - "The Paradise of Birds"

Gaohu, Guzheng and Xiao - "Reflection of an Autumn Moon on a Still Lake"
The concert started with an ensemble “Entertainment and Joy”, which warmed up the atmosphere. The performance with five instruments of Cantonese "Rain dropping on the Banana Leaves” was rhythmic and lively. The Gaohu solo “The Paradise of Birds” brought the sweet singing of birds to the audience. The Pipa and Ensemble “Ambushes on All Sides” was quite powerful. The series of Cantonese classical music including “Reflection of an Autumn Moon on a Still Lake”, "Frightening Waves”, "Colored Clouds Chase the Moon” and “Rise Step by Step” won applauses from the audience. The Troupe also performed the western classical music "Tritsch Tratsch Polka” and the Cantonese classical music “The Thunder in the Dry Season” for the teachers and students.
This concert was warmly welcomed and highly praised by the teachers and students present. As one audience said: “I’m really excited to come to the concert and enjoy the local music. I hope the University will hold more such activities.”
