Mayor Chen Jianhua visited SYSU to conduct survey and research at GSC

On the morning of October 20, Mr. Chen Jianhua, Mayor of Guangzhou, led persons from the municipal government to conduct survey and research on the construction of Guangzhou Supercomputing Center (GSC) on East Campus of SYSU, accompanied by SYSU President Xu Ningsheng, Assistant President Xia Lianghui, relevant persons from the Construction Bureau, Office of Security and Office of Supercomputing of SYSU, as well as staff members of NUDT.

First, Mayor Chen Jianhua visited the hall on the first floor of GSC building and listened to a report on the construction of GSC. He affirmed the work of various construction units and encouraged them to work hard to accomplish the task. Then, the mayor came to the computer room on the second floor and visited the technicians from NUDT. He shook hands with them one by one and asked about their work and life in Guangzhou. He encouraged everyone to make a concerted effort to create a miracle in Guangzhou, make contributions to the construction of GSC and Guangzhou, and gain brilliant achievements in supercomputing in China.

Mayor Chen Jianhua thanked SYSU for its efforts in the construction of GSC and hoped that SYSU would continue to provide strong support for the technicians from NUDT. In addition, he pointed out that Tianhe-2 heading the TOP500 list of world supercomputers has drawn international attention. He hoped that SYSU and NUDT could use their academic influences to advance the application and promotion of GSC, build a world-class supercomputing center to serve the market and the citizens, and make positive contributions to the transformation and upgrading of the city and the construction of a “Happy Guangzhou”.
