Tianhe-2 located in SYSU remains the world’s fastest supercomputer

According to Xinhua News Agency, the TOP500 list of supercomputers was released on November 18, 2013. Tianhe-2 developed by National University of Defense Technology topped the list once again, almost twice as fast as the second on the list, the US supercomputer Titan.

Tianhe-2, the world’s fastest supercomputer located on East Campus of SYSU

The first batch of equipment of Tianhe-2 started to be transported from Changsha to Guangzhou on September 28 and the relocation process was completed at the end of October. Tianhe-2 is now housed in the Guangzhou Supercomputing Center Building on East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. After nearly a month of installation and testing, the world’s fastest supercomputer was released on November 18 at the SC13 Conference held in Denver and participated in the latest TOP500 ranking.

Supercomputer plays a crucial role in such fields as geology, weather forecast and oil exploration, and it also serves as an important tool of scientific research in automobile, aviation, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, etc. The TOP500 list is an authoritative ranking of the world's supercomputers released twice a year since 1993.
