SYSU student won second prize in South China Regional Contest of National English Interpreting Competition

On December 7, the South China Regional Contest of the 3rd National English Interpreting Competition was held on the North Campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Qu Yujie, a postgraduate student from School of International Studies of Sun Yat-sen University, took part in the contest and won the second prize. She will attend the national semifinal in Nanjing next April.
The National English Interpreting Competition is a state-level contest co-hosted by Translators Association of China, and China Translation & Publishing Corporation. It consists of five stages, namely, preliminary round, second round, regional contest, national semifinal and national final. 13 contestants from universities in Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi took part in the South China Regional Contest. The first session is English to Chinese interpreting, in which the issue of anti-corruption was addressed. 8 contestants proceeded to the second session of Chinese to English interpreting, and they are required to interpret the speech on 4G by Chairman of China Mobile. The third session is dialogue interpreting, in which 4 contestants including Qu Yujie acted as interpreters for Chinese and foreign guests at the scene. Finally, two contestants were awarded the first prize, two the second prize and four the third prize. The first and second prize winners will attend the semifinal of the 3rd National English Interpreting Competition to be held in Nanjing in April, 2014.
