SYSU students won prizes in the 26th Japanese Speech Contest for University Students in Guangzhou

On December 22, the 26th Japanese Speech Contest for University Students in Guangzhou organized by Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou was held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Huang Qianhui and Liu Zhenye, two students from Department of Japanese, School of Foreign Languages, Sun Yat-sen University, claimed the champion of Post Beginner Level and the third prize at Beginner Level respectively.
30 students from 12 universities in Guangzhou took part in the contest. 15 students with less than three years of Japanese study experience contested at Beginner Level, while 15 students who have studied Japanese for more than three years were placed at Post Beginner Level. They went through two rounds of competition, prepared speeches in the morning and impromptu speeches in the afternoon. Huang Qianhui and Liu Zhenye represented SYSU to participate in the two levels respectively. Huang won the first place at Post Beginner Level and the Grant Program for Short-term Study in Japan. Liu was awarded the third prize at Beginner Level for his excellent pronunciation, intonation and confident stage performance.
Junior students and teachers from the Department of Japanese including Department Head Qiu Yafen, Vice Dean Xu Aihong, Foreign Instructor Hada Honami, Ms. Lin Li and Mr. Li Rong were also present at the event to support the contestants.
