Recently, the "2013 Smarter Planet Challenge" co-sponsored by IBM and IEEE came to an end. The project "Sharcl Community" of the SYSUMSTC team won the first place among 126 entries from around the world. This is the best award Sun Yat-sen University get in IBM/IEEE-sponsored global events, which is another historic breakthrough since SYSU decided to encourage and train undergraduate students to participate in high-level scientific and technological competitions.

The 2013 Smarter Planet Challenge _ Sharcl Community

The tournament spans nearly six months, from June to December 2013. Members of the SYSUMSTC team are mainly from the Microsoft club guided by East Campus Lab Center (ECLC) at Sun Yat-sen University. The team members include Conghui He (a SYSU student who is now a PhD candidate in Tsinghua University), Desheng Liu, Weijia Li, Lijun Wu, Lingzheng Zeng from SYSU, as well as Lin Gan from Tsinghua University. Under the support of East Campus Lab Center, the SYSUMSTC team creatively puts forward a "Sharcl Community" proposal when considering the current community development model of college students and the "collaborative consumption" idea. In addition, they also demonstrated the collaboration-community dream of college students via a video. In the proposed community, people can better help each other through collaborative consumption, thus creating a better and harmonious campus.

This project has been highly appreciated by the competition judges. They thought that the idea represents a future direction of community development, and encouraged the students to continue to strive for community service that betters humanity.
