Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology held 2014 opening ceremony for new students

On the morning of September 17, the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology (IFCEN) held 2014 opening ceremony for new students. Prof. Xu Ningsheng, President of Sun Yat-sen University; Mr. Jean-Marie Bourgeois-Demersay, French Dean of IFCEN; Prof. Wang Biao, Chinese Dean of IFCEN; French and Chinese teachers, as well as 106 new students attended the ceremony.

President Xu Ningsheng introduced the background of the establishment of IFCEN, and the advantages and prospects of the major. He encouraged the new students to study hard and become international high-end research, teaching and management professionals in the fields of nuclear engineering construction and management, environmental safety management and safe operation of nuclear power plants.

Dean Wang Biao introduced the objectives of talent fostering at IFCEN: have solid foundation and frontier knowledge; good at solving complex engineering problems; training process is closely linked to practice; have innovative abilities; have multicultural competence to adapt to international environment and competition; have good language abilities in Chinese, English and French. Dean Jean-Marie Bourgeois-Demersay congratulated the students on entering IFCEN in fluent Chinese, and introduced the modes of teaching at IFCEN and the importance of nuclear energy.

Chinese teacher representative Dr. Xu Shuaixia, French teacher representative Prof. Arnaud Martin, and student representatives Wang Xi and Wang Jianyuan made a speech respectively at the opening ceremony.
