On May 4th, 2015, Dr. André Richelieu, a full professor in the Marketing Department of Université Laval, Montréal, Canada, visited the School of Tourism Management, Sun Yat-sen University and gave a lecture to the graduate and doctoral students of the school in the Center for Tourism Planning and Research on Guangzhou South Campus. The theme of the lecture was “Major trends in sports business - Leverage, opportunities and perspectives”. Professor Richelieu focused on the academic areas in events planning, events organization, sports marketing, marketing ethics, Olympic games and sponsorship, which are all forefront issues concerned with tourism and marketing.

Professor Richelieu started the lecture with the sense of belonging and self-identification as a soccer fan. Then he made a detailed introduction about the main trends of the developments of sports tourism with detailed examples. The main trends include the regional development of sports industry the relationship between organization of sports and GDP growth, the globalization of sports, the wealth effect of sports business and the rise of sport entertainment. Professor Richelieu shared the leverage effects, opportunity & challenge in relation to the organization of sport events.
Professor Richelieu impressed the teachers and students with humorous language and vivid cases. When the lecture ended, the students communicated actively with Professor Richelieu, and they had an in-depth discussion about the influences of mega-events held by cities.
From April 29th to May 7th, Professor Richelieu also gave undergraduate students of the school on Zhuhai Campus a course titled with "Sport Events Planning and Operation" lasting for 18 class hours.
