The 2015 Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp (Mexican Group) held on Zhuhai Campus

On May 31, 2015, a group of students from The Ibero-American University in Mexico arrived as scheduled at Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) to attend the 2015 Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp in the School of International Studies (SIS).
On June 1, SIS hosted a welcome dinner for the Mexican group. Academic and Administrative Supervisor Prof. Wang Bin, Vice Dean Dr. Luo Bin, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Mr. Li Chunrong, Director of Spanish Department Ms. Zhang Zhongli, Office Manager Mr. Lan Shude, International Student Counselor Miss Ye Weiyin and student volunteers attended the activity.

The summer camp started officially on June 2. The campers took various courses, including Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Communication and Chinese Culture, which were prepared by instructors of teaching Chinese as a second language. These courses not only helped them grasp basic Chinese expressions, but also increased their interest for learning Chinese. In Peking Opera class, the campers learned to make “orchid fingers”; in calligraphy class, they learned to write with Chinese brushes; in Chinese movie class, they showed admiration for Chinese Kung Fu.
Trip to Guangzhou
The campers were also taken for a tour in and around Zhuhai city by SUMMERRY, a volunteer group consisting of undergraduate and postgraduate students from SIS. In the New Summer Palace, they dressed up like princess and emperor in ancient China with great curiosity; in Kaiping, they visited the traditional Chinese garden; in farmhouses, they picked the fruits and vegetables, experiencing the life in the countryside.
Graduation ceremony
On June 12, the Mexican students attended the graduation ceremony. Ms. Zhang Zhongli awarded each student with a graduation certificate.
The two-week Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp (Mexican Group) on Zhuhai Campus is the first study tour held by SIS, which is oriented toward students of our international cooperative universities. It provides an opportunity for international students to know more about China and SYSU, which is helpful for their future exchange study at SYSU. The volunteers of SIS, with their hospitable and meticulous services, build a deep friendship with the Mexican students.
