SYSU and Guangzhou government sign the NSCC-GZ entrusted management agreement

On the morning of September 6, 2015, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality signed the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou (NSCC-GZ) entrusted management agreement. Guangzhou government officially entrusted SYSU to manage the NSCC-GZ.

Mr. Chen Jianhua, Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Wang Dong, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Pan Jianguo, Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, and Prof. Ma Jun, Vice President of SYSU, as well as representatives from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Economic & Information Commission of Guangdong Province, National University of Defense Technology and relevant departments of Guangzhou Municipality, attended the signing ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, SYSU President Luo Jun thanked the Guangzhou government and the NSCC-GZ for their trust and support. He said that SYSU has confidence and ability to build the NSCC-GZ into a world-class supercomputer center, and make greater contributions to the innovation-driven development of Guangdong province and Guangzhou city.

Guangzhou Mayor Chen Jianhua pointed out that the NSCC-GZ is significant for the economic transformation and upgrading as well as the innovative development of Guangzhou. He fully affirmed the achievements of the NSCC-GZ, and hoped that SYSU would take this opportunity and use its disciplinary strengths in the university’s development.

After taking over the responsibilities of managing the NSCC-GZ, SYSU will establish a new managing mechanism, which will depend on the Tianhe-2 supercomputer, and will integrate high-level talent cultivation, software technology R&D and high-level application service. The NSCC-GZ will support the university’s newly established School of Data and Computer Science, and Big Data Science Center. Meanwhile, SYSU will form a high-level technology team to support the expansion of the supercomputing applications and services.
