Recently, the First “Beauty of Programming” Challenge, organized by the School of Software and the School of Mobile Information Engineering, was successfully held on Zhuhai Campus. The competition was aimed to focus on learning, promote “dedication to teaching, students and learning”, and strengthen the students’ practical abilities.

Contestants in the competition were first-year students who were not recommended for admission into Informatics major at the School of Mobile Information Engineering and the School of Software, and had been among the top 50 in the online examination for Software Design, a course that they had taken in the first semester. The competition rules were made by Professor Guo Songshan from the School of Software, who is also an ACM-ICPC gold medal coach. It was designed to check on the contestants’ abilities to apply under pressure what they had learned to solve within a time limit as many design problems as possible. Tan Yingyao, Deputy Secretary of the School of Software, and SYSU Student Software Technology Development Center provided support for the competition throughout the whole process.
