Zhong Yuling, a severely sick girl at Sun Yat-sen University, touched the hearts of Guangzhou citizens. Reporters of Southern Metropolis Daily learned yesterday that after a relay on Weibo launched by SYSU students to forward the help-seeking message, people from all walks of life have raised 230,000 yuan through on-site fundraising and account transfer.

Zhong Yuling is a 2012 postgraduate student from the School of Sociology and Anthropology, Sun Yat-sen University, who has been admitted as a postgraduate by SYSU twice, but now she is suffering from myasthenia gravis and lying in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). (For more details, please refer to the related reports on Southern Metropolis Daily on March 7.) The help-seeking message about Zhong Yuling’s urgent need to pay for the medical fees was forwarded on Weibo by SYSU students and began to ferment, arousing a tornado of philanthropy in her circle of friends. According to Lin Ping, Zhong Yuling’s instructor, by the night before yesterday, SYSU teachers and students had raised about 120,000 yuan in total. In addition, GOELIA Concept 225, where Zhong Yuling had served before, organized a charity sale at Guangzhou Book Market on March 10. Over 400 rare books were put on the shelves for the charity sale, and raised over 110,000 yuan in all.

It is leaned that Zhong Yuling was the chief editor of Lingnan Folk, a campus literary magazine in Sun Yat-sen University. She volunteered to be the main assistant in the first and second Guangzhou Book Market organized by GOELIA Concept 225, inviting honored guests in the cultural field and writing proposals and reports for the activities.

Lin Ping also added that, they have applied to the SYSU Education Development Foundation for the emergency relief fund for Yuling. The highest amount of the fund is 50,000 yuan, but the result will be known only after discussion by the foundation. Yuling’s classmate, who visited her the day before yesterday, told the reporter that Yuling was in good condition. The breathing machine had been removed and she was transferred to a general ward.
