On March 19th, the result of the preliminary contest of 2013 Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC13), the first international supercomputing contest in Asia, was announced. Ten teams from six countries and regions including mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and South Korea entered the finals.

The Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC) is one of the three global supercomputing contests, together with Supercomputing Conference (SC) in the United States and International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) in Germany. ASC is initiated by China, jointly launched and organized by experts and institutions in countries and regions including Japan, Russia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc. Hosted by Inspur, the contest is aimed to cultivate talents in applied supercomputing and promote supercomputer communication and cooperation in Asia.

Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National University of Defense Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, King Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia), University of ST. Petersburg (Russia) and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea) are going to participate in the ASC13 finals to be held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University from April 15th to 19th.
