Recently, the SYSU “Wanglaoji Cup” Persons of the Year 2012 officially launched its online voting website. The selection activity is jointly organized by Student Affairs Department of SYSU Party Committee, Graduate Student Affairs Department, Publicity Department, SYSU Youth Association, Career Development Counseling Center, and Mental Health Education & Counseling Center. SYSU teachers and students can enter http://zdndrw.sysu.edu.cn/ to view candidate information and vote.

The activity is closely related to the study and implementation of the essence of the 18th CPC National Congress, and will select 10 students who are outstanding in studying studiously, carrying out science and technology innovation, providing voluntary services, doing boldly what is righteous, and starting their own enterprises. 20 candidates for this year’s activity are selected after an extensive process of application by students, review and recommendation by schools and departments, examination and appraisal by the expert panel, and public scrutiny of candidates. It is the stage of online voting from the beginning of April to the mid-April, and on April 21, organizers will invite student representatives from the schools and departments to form a judging panel and hold a selection conference. The final 10 Persons of the Year will be selected from the 20 candidates through online voting and on-site voting at the selection conference, in which online voting accounts for 15 percent and on-site voting accounts for 70 percent. A commendation meeting will be held to honor the winning students after the selection process is completed.

It is reported that the selection activity of SYSU Persons of the Year has been successfully held for three times since 2010 with the aim to unearth, cultivate, and commend model students and demonstrate their mental outlook to guide university students to walk with direction, think with good taste, learn by examples, and to be a model for others to follow.
