The Pre-departure Orientation and Experience-sharing Meeting for Outgoing Exchange Students in 2013-2014 Fall Semester were held on East Campus on June 7. The activity, co-hosted by Office of International Cooperation & Exchange/Office for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs, Student Affairs Office and University Dean’s Office, gathered about 200 SYSU students who will go abroad (or outside mainland China) or go to other universities in mainland China as exchange students next semester, and invited 20 foreign exchange students currently studying at SYSU and 12 former SYSU outgoing exchange students. Ling Wenhua, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, and Qi Xiaoping, Director of Student Affairs Office, attended the Pre-departure Orientation.

On behalf of the University, Director Ling Wenhua congratulated the students on their success in applying for exchange programs, briefly introduced the University’s international cooperation and exchange, and expressed expectations and best wishes. The staff members of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange/Office for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs, Student Affairs Office and University Dean’s Office gave detailed instructions on overseas study, visiting procedures and discipline, scholarship, course selection, credit transfer, etc.

In the Experience-sharing Meeting, four foreign incoming exchange students gave a brief introduction to their home universities and shared their study experiences at SYSU. Four former SYSU outgoing exchange students also shared their interesting stories, acquisitions and experiences. The participants had a face-to-face interaction with international students, senior students and fellow students.

This activity has received good feedback. It helped outgoing exchange students be fully prepared and quickly adapted to the new study and living environment. In the meantime, it deepened their awareness as a “SYSUer” who can proudly undertake the responsibilities and obligations of exhibiting China and promoting SYSU to the outside world.

The exchange programs provide opportunities for SYSU students to increase their knowledge, to learn about foreign cultures and broaden their horizons. In recent years, the University has vigorously promoted and supported students’ outgoing study and exchange activities at all levels, and meanwhile, the University has actively introduced high-quality foreign educational resources and built international teaching platforms to create conditions for cultivating compound talents who have professional quality, humanistic care, leadership charisma and international perspective.
