SYSU students won prizes in APEC Voices of the Future 2013

Recently, the national competition of APEC Voices of the Future 2013 (VOF) was held in Beijing. Three students from School of Foreign Languages, Sun Yat-sen University attended this two-day event on behalf of the Guangdong division, standing out among strong rivals after 4 rounds of fierce competition.
Chen Zixing and Rao Jinyi, two graduate students from the Department of English won third prize. Huang Xia, a graduate student from the Department of German, won second prize and was awarded the title of “Best Cultural Deposit”, gaining a ticket to the one-week "Youth Camp of VOF” together with the first prize winners.
During the Youth Camp, Huang Xia attended lectures and programs given by noted figures including embassy counselor, reporter of Phoenix Satellite Television, corporate president, chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics, Secretary of CYL Beijing Municipal Committee, and professor of Princeton University. She also participated in a variety of outreach and volunteering activities. In the final competition of VOF, Huang Xia won the honorary title of “National Top 31”.
The APEC Voices of the Future, an annual program held in conjunction with the APEC Leaders’ Week, is considered a platform for Youth's Voice at the APEC Summit. It allows special teams of students and educators from the 21 APEC Economies to attend the APEC Summit. Working and learning together, the Voices teams share their views on the APEC vision with the APEC Leaders, Senior Officials, ABAC Members and CEOs.
