The 2nd Doctoral Candidates Forum on the Subject of Chinese was successfully held at Sun Yat-sen University on August 20-23, 2013. A parallel session

The forum was divided into four parallel sessions: literary theory and foreign literature, linguistics, ancient poetry and poetry criticism, and opera and folk culture. Two to three excellent papers were selected by experts and awarded in each session. During the forum, the participants shared the latest research results and had in-depth discussions about the major projects of the National Social Sciences Fund hosted by the Department of Chinese, Sun Yat-sen University.

The aim of this forum is to provide doctoral candidates from universities and colleges nationwide with a platform to exchange ideas and communicate with each other fairly and freely. It also spreads the concept and experience of SYSU’s teaching and research in Chinese language and literature and raised the reputation of the University.

The forum can be traced back to the Graduate Students Forum of the Department of Chinese, Sun Yat-sen University which was launched in 2000. In 2012, the 1st Doctoral Candidates Forum on the Subject of Chinese was held and won wide praise. Through 14 years, the academic forum has developed into a cultural brand for the cultivation of doctoral candidates in the Department of Chinese.
