On October 17, the finals of the 13th “Challenge Cup” National College Students Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition came to a close in Soochow University. Zhu Kongjun, Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, made a special trip to Suzhou to visit the contestants and encouraged them to get well-prepared, improve their skills and win honor for SYSU.

Tutored by Dr. Ren Rongwei from the School of Business and Academy of Entrepreneurship at SYSU, “A study on the survivability and legality of informal small and micro businesses in China based on the case study of 1,240 companies in 8 groups in Guangdong province” has been awarded the national grand prize, the only national grand prize won by Guangdong in the 13th Challenge Cup and the first national grand prize in philosophy and social sciences won by SYSU in its history of participation in the Challenge Cup.

In the past few years, SYSU Youth Association has promoted the “interdisciplinary tutorial system for undergraduates based on projects” through a series of extracurricular academic contests and incubated a batch of excellent works by undergraduates.

The 13th Challenge Cup was cohosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, China Association for Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, All-China Students Federation and the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, and undertaken by Soochow University and Suzhou Industrial Park. Nearly 20,000 works from almost 2,000 colleges and universities nationwide registered in the official website of the Challenge Cup since it was launched in March this year. After provincial contests and national review, 1,135 works from 440 colleges and universities entered the final competition.
