SYSU international students achieved good results in the 8th Guangzhou Friendship Games

On November 16-17, 2013, with the theme "Vitality Guangzhou, Movement Infinite", the 8th Guangzhou Friendship Games, organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government and Guangzhou Sports Bureau, kicked off in Tianhe Sports Center. Nearly 1,300 Chinese and foreign staff and international students from 68 countries and regions attended the Games.

Sun Yat-sen University sent out a team of 138 international students, the biggest one in the past seven years, to compete in the total six games: basketball, football, tennis, badminton, table tennis and bowling. After two days of competition, the SYSU team achieved outstanding results: 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronzes. In particular, Andy Saputra (Indonesia) from the School of Chinese as a Second Language won three golden medals in badminton (men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles). In addition, the Office for International Students’ Affairs of SYSU was awarded the title of "Excellent Organizer” for its enthusiastic participation and outstanding organization. After the games, the international students were invited by the Organizing Committee to attend the Guangzhou Friendship Carnival which brought a successful end to the Games.
