On November 17, 2013, the Global Summit of SME Leaders was held in Guangzhou. Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of Guangdong Province; Ms. Li Xiaolin, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Mr. Bill Clinton, Former President of the United States; Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Vice President of the French Senate and Former Prime Minister of France; Mr. Raul Diez Canseco Terry, Former First Vice President of Peru; and Mr. Carlos Magarinos, Global Chairman of GASME, attended the Summit. Twenty-six students from Sun Yat-sen University volunteered for the event.

During the Summit, each volunteer served with their knowledge, skill and smile, with a focus on his or her own specific job, varying from guiding participants and handing out earphones to receiving foreign guests. With their assistance, the Summit came to a complete success and their effort was much acclaimed by the leaders, entrepreneurs and foreign friends who attended the event.

Prior to the event, the School of Foreign Languages (FLS) Youth League was invited by the organizer to conduct the selection of volunteers for the Summit. After two rounds of interviews, 26 SYSU students (including 19 from FLS) were chosen to be the volunteers. They received field training and participated in rehearsals to be fully prepared.
