SYSU student won the China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award

The selection of the 8th China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award, organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, All-China Youth Federation, All-China Students Federation and National Working Committee of Chinese Young Pioneers, has come to an end. Lu Xihong, a PhD candidate in Physical Chemistry (enrolled in the combined Master’s and PhD program in 2008) from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University, won the 8th China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award.

During his study, Lu Xihong has published 50 academic papers with cumulative impact factor 130 and more than 470 citations. Eleven of his papers have impact factor over 8.0; several are published in top academic journals such as Adv. Mater., Nano Lett., Nanoscale, etc.; four are included as ESI-Highly Cited Papers; several have been cited over 30 times. Lu Xihong is now a reviewer for the world’s top journals such as Journal of the American Chemical Society and Nanoscale. He was awarded the title of “Nanyue Excellent Postgraduate Student of Guangdong Province” in 2010, and won the Scholarship Award for Excellent Doctoral Student granted by the Ministry of Education in 2011.

The China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award was set up in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Deng Xiaoping. It is learned that the 8th China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award adopted the method of organization recommending candidates, and carried out competitive selection among youngsters who have outstanding performance or great potential in innovation. Finally, the evaluation committee selected 100 winners, and seven students from Guangdong province received the award this year.
