On February 25-26, the Going to Latin America Forum, hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA), was held in Guangzhou. Officials, envoys and scholars including Mr. Li Zhaoxing, President of CPDA and former Foreign Minister; Mr. Liu Zhigeng, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province; Mr. Liu Jianchao, Assistant Foreign Minister; Mr. Andrés Pastrana, former President of the Republic of Colombia; and Mr. Jorge Quiroga, former President of Bolivia, attended the forum. Fourteen students from School of Foreign Languages (FLS), Sun Yat-sen University offered volunteer services in the forum.

FLS was invited by the organizers to select volunteers for the forum. On February 23 after receiving field training, the volunteers went to the Guangzhou International Convention Center to help with conference preparation. The next day, they were divided into 3 teams, respectively responsible for picking up guests from the airport, following up with the media and helping with rehearsals. During the forum, the volunteers attended to their duties and displayed the demeanor of SYSU students. Their efforts were acclaimed by the participants and organizers.
