In response to extracurricular sports activities for university students with the theme of “Disconnect the internet, leave the dormitory, go to the playground” launched by the CYL Central Committee, as one of the 10 pilot universities for this project, Sun Yat-sen University initiated the “Here We Go” series of activities in February this year. Activities are carried out in four modes: “Public Welfare and Sports; Internet and Sports; Medicine and Sports; Entrepreneurship and Sports”. The students design mascots and related cultural products, carry out theme activities across the whole university, establish accreditation mechanism for sports, and improve the support mechanism for sports and activities. Now, the series of activities have been carried out vigorously on SYSU campuses.

Designed by SYSU Youth Association and SYSU Student Union, four adorable lions — Simon, Yolanda, Simba and Ursula, are invited to be the mascots of SYSU “Here We Go” Activities and represent SYSU’s sports spirit and tradition. Each lion represents one campus and its characteristics: Simon represents South Campus, Yolanda represents North Campus, Simba comes from East Campus, and Ursula is a member of Zhuhai Campus.

Confident, brave and all-embracing Simon

Enthusiastic, friendly and smart Yolanda

Young, dynamic and energetic Simba

Beautiful, vivacious and happy Ursula

These four little lions will accompany and witness almost 300 sports activities organized by SYSU Youth Association, SYSU Student Union and nearly 100 organizations or associations in different schools and departments, which involve more than 80 kinds of sports and over 30,000 students from four campuses. Through the four measures of “to create a sports classroom of virtual interest; to write a SYSU Guinness Book of Sports; to select a sports talent for a type of activity; to utter a cry for the sports-loving youth”, and with the help of the accreditation system for sports and activities built upon new media and APP applications, the organizers endeavor to encourage students to “Disconnect the internet, leave the dormitory, go to the playground”.
