The First Guangdong Foreign Language and Literature Forum for Graduates held at SYSU

On March 29, organized by School of Foreign Languages (FLS) at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), and undertaken by Graduate Union of FLS, the First Guangdong Foreign Language and Literature Forum for Graduates was successfully held in FLS Building on South Campus. Based on the first and second Foreign Languages and Literature Postgraduate Student Forum of Sun Yat-sen University, this Forum has widened its influence to Guangdong Province with support from the School of International Studies (SIS) at SYSU, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), Jinan University and several other universities. The Forum received nearly 100 papers, 18 of which were selected into the final competition. Zhang Na, a graduate from Shenzhen University, was awarded the first prize in recognition of her excellent performance.

The morning session included opening ceremony and academic salon. Dr. Xu Dongli, Secretary of FLS, delivered an opening speech to offer support and encouragement. Tang Biaofeng, representative of former award winners and a FLS graduate, shared her experience in the competition. During the academic salon, the contestants, judge panel and audiences conducted academic dialogues and exchanges.

The afternoon session was paper review, including presentation, Q&A, commenting and interaction. The judge panel consisted of Professor Liu Yan, Dean of Faculty of English Language and Culture at GDUFS, Professor Fang Kairui at GDUFS, Professor Chang Chenguang, Dean of FLS, Associate Professor Liao Haiqing at FLS, Associate Professor Gao Wenping at FLS and Associate Professor Luo Bin at SIS. They praised the quality of the papers, the contestants’ argumentative skills and enquiring spirit. Dean Chang Chenguang gave a closing speech encouraging the graduates to dedicate themselves to academic research.
