Lingnan Opera League won prizes in the 10th National University Peking Opera Contest

The Lingnan Opera League of Sun Yat-sen University won three Second Prizes, two Third Prizes and the Best Organization Prize at the 10th National University Peking Opera Contest held in Chengdu on October 1-6, 2014.
The 10th National University Peking Opera Contest was hosted by the University Peking Opera Committee of Chinese Society for Theatre Performance, and undertaken by Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Four hundred faculty and student members from eighty universities and people from Peking Opera circles attended this event, including nine faculty and students from SYSU. They prepared one play merely for performance and four plays for competition at the contest: periscopes selected from
A New Wife’s Dream,
Fermented Bean Drink,
Zhuo Wenjun,
Silang Visits His Mother, and
Farewell My Concubine. With sound and standardized skills of Chang, Nian, Zuo and Da, and with excellent stage performance, they won the appreciation of the judges and the audiences.

Besides contest and exhibition, there were seminars and thematic lectures. Ms. Qin Yu, an instructor of Lingnan Opera League, presented her paper entitled "University Peking Opera Teaching in a Comparative Culture View", introducing the achievements of Lingnan Opera League in recent years, such as the performances of the whole play of
The Kylin Purse and the ones given in America and Mexico. The paper is collected into the conference proceeding.
Lingnan Opera League has been devoted to promoting the popularization of Peking Opera, a quintessence of the Chinese culture, encouraging young students to learn Peking Opera art, promoting their artistic attainment, enriching campus culture and carrying on our excellent traditional culture.
