On December 26, 2014, the commendation meeting for volunteer work in the 2nd Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, the 2014 China International Friendship Cities Conference & Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Conference was held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The meeting was joined by leaders of Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality and the Communist Youth League (CYL) Committee of Guangzhou as well as teachers and student volunteers from 11 universities in Guangdong Province.

At the commendation meeting, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was awarded Excellent Organizing Unit of Volunteer Service. Ms. Zhao Jing from SYSU CYL Committee and Ms. Dong Wan from School of Foreign Languages (FLS) of SYSU were named Outstanding Individual for Organizing Volunteers, and 24 SYSU volunteers were awarded the title of Outstanding Volunteer in recognition of their excellent service.
It is reported that the 2nd Guangzhou Award ceremony and two international conferences were held at Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center on November 27-29, 2014. The FLS CYL Committee took charge of enrolling, training and organizing SYSU foreign languages volunteers for the events.
