On March 13, 2015, Dr. Wu Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and Director of the Office for International Students’ Affairs (ISO) of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), accompanied by the recruitment manager Ms. Yang Weiqing, visited the Thai Alumni Association of SYSU in Bangkok.
Dr. Shaoliang Koanantakul (Gao Shaoliang in Chinese) received the delegation from his Alma Mater with a warm welcome at his clinic. Dr. Leo Liao, vice chairman of the association, and Mr. Wong Jongphadungsat, secretary-general of the association, were also present at the reception. Dr. Gao introduced the delegation to Mr. Kampol Srethbhakdi (Liao Xilin in Chinese), president of Thai Malleable Group and chairman of Thai Alumni Association of China’s Universities. Mr. Liao, also owner of a Chinese language school, was motivated to send his students to study at SYSU after Dr. Wu gave a vivid presentation about SYSU. Then, they had a pleasant talk and exchanged productive ideas on how to strengthen communication and cooperation in the future. They both agreed that it is important to develop international education between Thailand and China.

The alumni were excited and recalled a beautiful memory of their student life at SYSU. They hoped to expand the association and assured the delegation that they would assist the student recruitment in Thailand.
On behalf of the University and its Education Development and Alumni Affairs Office, Dr. Wu presented a gift to the Thai Alumni Association of SYSU, and a letter of greetings signed by Ms. Li Hanrong, Director of the Education Development and Alumni Affairs Office of SYSU.
The SYSU delegation will officially launch their Thai recruitment campaign in Bangkok, Udon Thani and Hat Yai in Thailand. In this spring semester, there are around 230 Thai students at SYSU, and it is hoped that this number will be drastically increased after ISO’s new round of promotion campaign in all dimensions.
