On April 15, 2015, SYSU debating team was awarded champion in the 5th World Mandarin Debating Championship. Chi Ye, a student from School of Mathematics and Computational Science of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), was named “Best Speaker”.

Launched in September 2014, the 5th World Mandarin Debating Championship attracted 246 teams from at home and abroad. 16 debating teams stood out in the competition and entered the finals. The team from National University of Singapore was the runner-up, the team from The University of Hong Kong and the team from Remin University of China won the third place.
